Learning how to arrange a bedroom will help the bedroom look and feel larger. Even if the bedroom is relatively small, with key furniture placement and the proper decorations it can seem much larger. Use these steps to learn how to arrange a bedroom for both efficiency and aesthetics.
To arrange a bedroom, you will need:
- Tape measure
- Pencil
- Graph paper
- Strong movers
- Measure the dimensions of the room that you wish to arrange, using a tape measure. Draw a scale version of the room on a sheet of graph paper, allowing each line on the paper to represent the measurement of one foot. Mark the windows, the entrance and any closets in the room on the scaled drawing.
-
Measure the size of any furniture that will be in the room. This includes the bed, dresser, or armoire.
-
Draw a scale version of all of the furniture that will be in the room on graph paper. Cut the drawings out. Arrange the furniture so that you have the most space in your scaled drawing, but allowing at least 16 inches (preferably 18) for walkways between the furniture. Visualize what it will look like.
-
Place the largest furniture item, usually the bed, so that it is clear of the main path of traffic. As the largest piece of furniture, visitor's eyes will draw towards the bed first. This piece is the most important piece and you should organize all other pieces around this focal point.
- Continue arranging the furniture cut-outs in the scaled drawing until you are happy. Move the furniture into the marked places on your scaled drawing.
-
Inspect the room and decide how you like it. Completely rearrange the setup if you do not like it or make small changes until it suits your taste.
- Place wall hangings, lamps and other smaller pieces strategically around the room at even distances from the large objects. Always attempt to "balance" the room. For example, if you place a picture on one wall, place another equally sized picture on the opposite wall.
Tips: Try to match colors as they provide more "balance" to the arrangement of the room.
